A few of us were talking about things that would be good in an emergency bag.  I don't mean stuff that you'll keep in there and casually pull  stuff out.  I'm talking about a bag for Shit Hits The Fan situations where you'll threaten the teens with hitting them upside the head.  Well, I thought that this would make for a great discussion or rolling article for the site.

One of the things that was discussed was food.  You could go in many directions with this.  I think focusing on REALLY important stuff and not Kool-Aid or bulshit like that.  Remembering that yellow and black packaging that I would see around, I dug around and found Mayday Industries.  Mayday Industry is a company that makes products aimed at disaster preparedness and has been doing it since 1995.  I asked about their various offereing and received a box of happy stuff for an absolute shitty day.

The Emergency Food Rations were marked as 400, 1200, 2400, 3600.  My guess is that they're all the same flavor, just more bars corresponding the the calorie count.  I started off with the 400 calorie bar.

The single bar is scored in the middle.  Doing the math, each square is 200 calories.  The 3600 calorie pack has 18 bars.

The flavor is labeled apple cinnamon.  Tasting the bar, it's right on and pretty damn good at that.  It's not a really strong taste, but if you have nothing else to eat but this, it'll taste like a Martha Stewart apple pie.  In a dire situation, I think it'd be better to consume something that doesn't have a bold taste. The texture is like one of those shortbread cookie bars.  Also tagged as non thirst provoking, I have to say that I agree.

Why should/would you consider this?  It's not expensive at all. I believe that you can find the big blocks for maybe 6 bucks.  Also, this has a 5 year shelf life.  This is good stuff, and I'm keeping it in my emergency bag.
