Being that we going to be expading our reviews at the request of our readers, I got my grubby hands on an M.A.K. - 1. The M.A.K. 1 was designed by Firefighter, James McGowan. First off, included literature. THANK YOU! You know, manufacturers...you work hard to put out a good products...why shortchange yourself and not include some literature? It doesn't have to be written by Maya Angelou. Just something that talks about your product. The included papers consists of a mini catalog and a sheet of paper that talks about the M.A.K. -1.
Right of the bat, WOW...this thing ain't small nor light...EXACTLY what you'd expect from a serious work duty tool. This measures 10" with 3" of that being blade.
![]() The finger choil at the botom and traction grooves at the top make for positive handling, control and retention even with gloves on. 3Cr13 and has a black teflon finish.
![]() I've reviewed several items that had this same type of G10 scales which I really like. They can be removed with a screwdriver.
![]() The tip of the blade is a blunt chisel tip. The bottom edge of the blade is sharpened.

The M.A.K.-1 is a simple yet well thought out tool, especially with dealing with an MVA. There's absolutely nothing that feels cheap about it. It has heft with it's thick blad, and you know that it'll take the abuse you give it. Smashy wants me to chop something with it, so I watch our video channel.
