I encounter firearm owners both on Tactical Review Group and in my everyday life that ask me about training DVDs.  Personally, I like them.  I truly believe that as firearm owners, knowledge in whatever increasing capacity, is helpful.  Some will help you and some won't,  The idea is to expose yourself to an array of principles and apply those that work.  However, all of us at Tactical Reivew Group stress that instructional material, no matter how good they are, should be treated as supplemental and complimentary.

Years ago, while looking for said training materials, I stumbled upon a gentleman name Rob Pincus who was at the time, director of operations and the lead instructor at the Valhalla Training Center in Colorado.  Rob's background is as a former law enforcement officer, executive protection agent and training consultant.  We've exchanged letters before and I find Rob to be a great guy and really is about educating and helping out firearm owners.  Now, you can see him on various shows including the Outdoor Channel's The Best Defense and also heading up I.C.E. Training. These days, he's a busy man with taping shows, taking courses to add to his knowledge and also instructing.  Rob is the founder of the Combat Focus Shooting (CFS) program.  CFS is known as an intuitive shooting program in that's designed to work with what the body does in reaction to/in high stress and high risk situations.

The first thing that grabbed me about CFS was that it was smart.  I can't tell you how many times I've encountered new shooters at various ranges training, in my opinion, wrong.  CF, based on facts, stresses training within the "proven incindent" range or no more than 15 feet.  In other words, most incidents occur within the said 15 feet.  MANY times, I'll see shooters that lack technique and skill throwing targets out 25+ feet.  Shot placement ends up being all over the place with little consistency and with shots being fired at least every 3 seconds for the poor shots.  Inversely, if the said group does quicker shots, it's still all over the place.  Like many things in life, firearm accurace and consistency is a matter of baby steps and comes with range time.  If you want to start shooting accurately that far out, you need to find a basis of technique that works for you starting in closer confines.  Also, keep in mind that in self defense situations, the farther you are out from shooting your threat, the weaker the case of self defense might be in court.

CFS doesn't just cover simply shooting in closer confines, but also goes through very smart techniques that I myself have adopted into own training.  Having watched the DVD numerous times, the information is truly worth more than $29.95.
